Warm weather and making kites

The kids have almost cleared the backyard of who knows how many years of leaves. Thank you 70 degree days. Inspired by the wind billowing through the lawn and leaf bags as they were being filled, the girls decided to make kites and take them to the park. We used plastic grocery bags and bamboo skewers. We really couldn't get them to fly. I think they may have been too small. So if the weather permits, we will make bigger ones tomorrow and try them again. Despite the kite failure, the kids had a great time at the park and I enjoyed my bare feet touching the cool grass.

And, just because it was such a nice day, I thought I'd get some pictures of the girls all together. But to start you off, here's the best picture that anyone has ever taken of any baby EVER! Well, probably not, but I think it's pretty darn cute!

Now on to the pictures from the park....

The four ladies. It was pretty much impossible to get everyone to look at me at the same time, so I gave up trying.

There were big huge blossoms of some sort on the trees. Bijou is sporting hers as a hat.

The oldest and youngest of our little tribe. They have lots of moments like this. Jena is like the second mother.

Ashni was trying to get her to smell the flower not eat it.

She is still wearing that blossom hat!

Just the ladies today.

It was a good day...

Kiddo Photography

Every now and then I like to let one of the kids loose with the camera. I usually forget that I've done it and a few days later I get a pleasant surprise when I upload the pictures. This weekend, Ashni took some pictures while I built their dollhouse. Enjoy!

We were so happy to see 60+ degrees this weekend! Zion has on fuzzy footie PJ's under her overalls.
Bijou got a marker and a piece of scrap wood and made a very lovely drawing. It's currently on display in her room.
Ashni is holding the phone to Zion's ear with one hand and taking the picture with the other.

Not really sure what Jena is doing, but she seems to be enjoying herself (notice the footie pajamas on Zion)!

I'll throw in a little Bijou-ism here because I haven't done one in a while. Tonight at dinner, Ashni wasn't eating (she hasn't been feeling well):

Bijou: Ashni is like she's in China.

Me: What?

Bijou: She's like she's in China.

Me: What do you mean?

Bijou: If she's in China, she'll eat China food.

Apparently our breakfast for dinner should have been Chinese food and then Ashni would have eaten it.

Kids and cameras

I'd forgotten that I let Ashni take pictures with my camera this past weekend as she and her sisters walked around the neighborhood. Children have an uncanny ability to take incredibly focused and candid photographs of their surroundings. They can capture the true nature of their subjects in a way that I could only hope to. They can also take pictures of some of the most ridiculous things. I have my fair share of butt photos, cracked concrete photos, blurry grass photos, but I guess those too have their charm. I usually keep them all, maybe hoping that when they are 15 or 18 or 25 that they will get a kick out of their early photography. Here are some of this more entertaining photos from the weekends photo shoot...

Is she doing what I think she's doing? EWW...
The stroller handle?

There were an abnormal number butt pictures. i enjoy Bijou's Napoleon Dynamite-esque boots-pants combo that she has going on here. You take what you get when you let them dress themselves. She loves these boots.

The driveway...or the road....or the neighbor's driveway....not sure.

and some that melt my heart...

Jena, the other mother. She's VERY sweet and patient with the little ones. Now she and Ashni, that's another matter entirely.

The future IS now! The most awesome shirt in Bijou's current wardrobe.

Ashni and Bijou played very well on this day. It was refreshing. I dread the upcoming winter and everyone being closed in the house all day. I think we will be taking lots of trips to Memphis and Tupelo for activities outside the house.

Bijou was trying to calm Zion who'd had enough of the playpen in the driveway. Excuse the snotty baby nose. This, I assume, was the beginning of her RSV and ear infection she is fighting right now.
