So, I posted a picture a couple of days ago of Bijou sitting proudly with her list of words that she'd spelled with her letter cards. Unfortunately, I forgot to share the great Bijou-ism that goes along with that picture...
Bijou: I can spell "as". A. S.
Me: Very good. Now can you tell me a sentence using the word as?
Bijou: (looking very thoughtful and serious) Like, pain in the as???
Me: (falls on the flooring laughing)
Okay, so maybe I won't win mom of the year for that one, BUT I did let her know that it was not polite for little girls to say that and gave her the correct use of the word "as".

Bijou-isms hit the road...
So it wouldn't be a proper vacation without some choice Bijou-isms. Today's Bijou-ism is brought to us by waiting too long to go to the bathroom and a healthy obsession with dinosaurs. So, Bijou is doing the pee pee dance and running up the driveway this morning. It's obvious that she's too late to make it to the bathroom (there was a wet trail following her). "You're just going to have to finish. You can't pee all through the house." So, she "finishes" and comes in to get cleaned up and put on some dry clothes. When we go back out, she sees the puddle that she's left at the bottom of the back stairs.
Bijou: Mommy, my pee looks like a dinosaur!
Me: Um, yeah I guess it kinda does. Gross.
Bijou: Jena, look, I have dinosaur pee.
Jena: Ew, Bijou. You're stepping in it.
Bijou (laughing hysterically): I'm walking in my dinosaur pee, Mommy!
Yep, dinosaur pee. That's today's Bijou-ism. That kid....

Bijou Talks....and TALKS
All of my girls are very talkative (well, not the baby, but she couldn't get a word in if she wanted to....). I have to say that Ashni and Bijou are by far the most talkative in the house. They are the kids that I don't remember ever NOT talking. Ashni has always been full of deep. insightful, probing questions (as well as bad jokes and goofy perspectives on life). We've learned that Bijou, at three years old, will continue to talk even when she needs to inhale. This means that there are little snippets of her sentences that are inaudible because she is talking while breathing IN. Here is an excerpt of our conversation at 7 o'clock this morning:
I come out of my bedroom carrying the baby. Bijou is laying on the living room floor, fully dressed and wrapped in a blanket.
Bijou: Good morning mommy. I was a big girl while I was asleep!
Me: You were a big girl while you were asleep? Well that's good.
Bijou: You only have on one sock mommy. That's funny. You have on one sock, Daddy has on two socks, Me and Zion don't have on socks. I thought I had shoes on in my bed, Mommy, but I didn't. It was just my feet. I wore these clothes for pajamas. These are my pajamas. Can you make me some breakfast.
Me: Yes, sweetie, I'll make you some breakfast in a little bit.
Bijou: Can I have oatmeal? Or waffles? I can eat waffles because I have these teeth. (smiles really big and shows me her teeth) When I was little I didn't have these teeth (points to her molars) and when I get bigger my teeth will get wiggly. They're going to get wiggly, Mommy, and then I am going to pull it out. It's going to bleed when I pull it out. Ashni pulled her tooth out and then she used a towel and showed me her blood. And that wasn't nice. Nope, that was mean. Right, Mommy? That was mean.
Me: She probably wasn't trying to mean, Bijou.
Bijou: Showing me her blood was mean.
The conversation goes on. Actually, the conversations never stop. She talks like this ALL day. It has become background noise in the house. I've gotten so used to the non stop talking that when she's asleep, I feel like I need to turn on the TV or something just to get the noise level back to normal (I don't do that though, I really appreciate the quiet when I can get it).

Kiddo Photography
Every now and then I like to let one of the kids loose with the camera. I usually forget that I've done it and a few days later I get a pleasant surprise when I upload the pictures. This weekend, Ashni took some pictures while I built their dollhouse. Enjoy!
We were so happy to see 60+ degrees this weekend! Zion has on fuzzy footie PJ's under her overalls.
Bijou got a marker and a piece of scrap wood and made a very lovely drawing. It's currently on display in her room.
Ashni is holding the phone to Zion's ear with one hand and taking the picture with the other.
Not really sure what Jena is doing, but she seems to be enjoying herself (notice the footie pajamas on Zion)!

I'll throw in a little Bijou-ism here because I haven't done one in a while. Tonight at dinner, Ashni wasn't eating (she hasn't been feeling well):
Bijou: Ashni is like she's in China.
Me: What?
Bijou: She's like she's in China.
Me: What do you mean?
Bijou: If she's in China, she'll eat China food.
Apparently our breakfast for dinner should have been Chinese food and then Ashni would have eaten it.

Today's Bijou-ism
I haven't posted a Bijou-ism in some time. It's not that she hasn't been saying humorous things, I just haven't been keeping up with them lately...
Today she ran into my bedroom and slid across the floor giggling:
Bijou - "Mommy, I just dashed into your room!"
Me - "Dashed?"
Bijou - "Yes. I dashed into your room"
Me - "Where did you get that word from?"
Bijou - "Out of my mouth."
Ask a silly question.....

Today's Bijou-ism
We were riding in the van today and a flock of birds was flying over the airport runway. They were circling and swooping all together. Bijou was amazed.
Bijou: Mommy, look at the birds.
Me: I see.
Bijou: They are flying all together. They are beautiful. And they are all friends.
I thought it was sweet that she thought that they were beautiful.

Today's Bijou-ism
We'd been having a very rough evening with Bijou. She has a terrible temperament when she is either hungry or sleepy or both. So she'd been crying all evening about everything. First, she cried because she didn't want to take a bath. Then she cried because I would not give her new pajamas because she hadn't had a bath. The she cried because she couldn't get a fork out of the dishwasher. Then because she couldn't get it back in the dishwasher. Then because she knocked her cup of lemonade over. TWICE! I'm sure you get the picture. Then, the highlight of my evening. She was standing at the sink, in her too big pajama pants from last night, crying because she couldn't keep them up and did the best thing any kid could ever do. She started trying to tuck her pajama pants between her butt cheeks and saying, "I have to put these in here, mommy. I have to put these in here so that they will stay up!" No, sweetie, we do not tuck our pants in our butts to keep them up!

Today's Bijou-ism
Bijou has learned to read her name. Well, if there is a list of names and hers is on it, she can pick it out. For months now, she has said that any word that started with a "b" was her name. But now she knows the difference between her name and other "b" words. Recently, Zion's feet have gotten big enough to wear some of the shoes that I made for Bijou when she was about 9 months old. I put Bijou's name on the bottom of each pair. Today she picked up one of the shoes that Zion had been wearing earlier in the day and said:
"This was my shoe, mommy. See, it says Bijou. It doesn't say Granny or Jena or Ashni or Zion or Daddy or Mommy. It says Bijou!"
Now it's time for everyone's favorite game
Where Will I Find Bijou Sleeping Tonight?!
She is a big fan of getting out of bed and onto the floor to go back to sleep. We've found her under Jena's bed, in the doorway of her bedroom, naked in the hallway, on the dining room floor and our bedroom floor. It has become a fun little game at night to see where she will end up.

Today's Bijou-ism
Bijou has a wealth of witty little statements and insights. On most occasions they bring a little humor to my day. On others, I wonder where in the world I got this child from. Today she is all about knock knock jokes.
Bijou: Knock, knock.
Me: Who's there?
Bijou: Potato Head.
Me: Potato Head who?
Bijou: Um, I love you Potato Head.
I guess I'm Potato Head.
